The bank account to be designated when applying to the Japan Pension Service for a lump-sum withdrawal payment.

Some foreign nationals designate a Japanese bank account as their bank account when applying for a lump-sum withdrawal payment to the Japan Pension Service.

In recent years, we have seen many cases where Japanese bank accounts are frozen when the account holder’s period of stay expires.

This is a case where the account holder has designated a Japanese bank account as the account to which the lump-sum withdrawal payment is transferred, but the account is frozen because of the expiry of the period of stay and the account holder can no longer check or move money from the Japanese bank account.

In such cases, the account holder must go to the Japanese bank to have the account unfrozen in order to get the money from the account.

Please be careful if you are claiming Lump-sum Withdrawal Payments.
